Learn to Make Jewelry at the Library

New Castle-Henry County Public Library is offering two jewelry-making workshops on Thursdays, June 1 and June 15, at 6:30 p.m. in the library’s Jennings Meeting Room. Learn how to make earrings, bracelets and necklaces. Materials will be provided, but participants must register. Whimsimusicology: An Afternoon of Comedy and Music with Lance Brown

Enjoy an afternoon of musical satire and humor on Saturday, May 13, at 2 p.m. Musician and entertainer Lance Brown will present “Whimsimusicology,” a collection of original songs such as “Buzzards in Love,” “Little Blue Pills,” and “It’s All About Me.”
Brown performed several years ago at the library with his one-man show “Will Rogers Now!”
The program is free and will take place in the library’s auditorium.

Library Lands ‘Great Stories’ Grant for Teen Book Discussions

New Castle-Henry County Pubic Library was recently named as a winner of a Great Stories CLUB grant. The Great Stories CLUB is a book club grant program organized by the American Library Association, with a grant from Oprah’s Angel Network, to provide young adults with the opportunity to discuss books relevant to the challenges in their lives.
The library will partner with the Henry County Youth Center to offer book clubs to troubled teens. The library will receive eleven sets of three books to provide to members of the book club, along with online resources to plan and implement the program. Book selections, theme and program support materials are developed by YALSA’s Outreach to Young Adults with Special Needs Committee. The theme for the Great Stories CLUB is teens facing challenges.

American Girl Doll Raffle

Friends of the Library are selling raffle tickets for three American Girl Dolls. Tickets are one for $2, or three for $5, and are available at the circulation desks, Friends Gift Shop, and from Friends of the Library board members. Winners will be drawn at the Mother, Daughter & Doll Tea Party at the library on Saturday, May 6, at 2:30 p.m. Those who purchase tickets for the raffle do not need to be present to win. The Tea Party is a free event presented by the Children’s Library and Friends of the Library.

Simple Steps to Raising a Money-Smart Child

We all want what is best for our children... Learn how to raise a money-smart child on Wednesday, May 3, at 6:30 p.m. in the Jennings Meeting Room. This program is designed for parents in all stages– parents of toddlers who are teaching the basics about money and parents of teens who are teaching financial responsibility– and everyone in between. The workshop is free, but registration is requested. Register at the library, online at, or by calling 529-0362, ext. 310. This program is presented in partnership with Perfect Circle Credit Union.

Teen Knit Night

Get in the knitting circle... learn how to do basic stitches or check out some new patterns at this program on Tuesday, May 2, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Beginners to advanced knitters are welcome! Refreshments will be served.
